Generally, you aren't supposed to fight chimeras until you have good gear, but you don't need an rpg or rifle grenades to deal with them. They are literally the deadliest enemy in this game. Learn to dodge, don't fight them if you don't have armor or don't have the skill for it, and if all else fails, rifle grenades or a solid sniper rifle will solve the problem. Should only need 2-3 mags from an assault rifle, provided you are hitting with the entire mag and are nailing the head, which isn't difficult when it is beelining toward you.
